The American conservative argues that the best thing to do to fight the rising homeless population is to increase access to affordable housing and homelessness treatment services.
The conservative claims that this resort is a prime example of the problem.
“The resorts, and the surrounding neighborhoods, have become a breeding ground for homeless people and it’s been a great example of how our government’s priorities are not working,” Bennett wrote.
“They don’t want people on the streets, they don’t care about people in shelters, and they don’ want us to spend more money on homelessness treatment.”
Bennet added that if the resorts didn’t close the camps, the homeless would eventually be forced to live in the city, “a situation that’s worse than living in poverty.”
This isn’t the first time Bennett has made this claim.
Bevin and Bennett are not the only Republicans to make similar claims about this resort.
In March, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told Fox News that the “excellent resort” is “a magnet for people to live there and then be homeless.”
“It’s like the best place to live is in a hotel.
It’s so bad that it’s going to happen, I think,” King said.
“I’m going to tell you right now, we’re going to do everything we can to keep people from living in that resort.”
King’s comments came after the Republican congressman was quoted as saying that the resort was “just like a bad, bad, horrible motel.”
The resort is located in a rural area of southern Alabama.
The resort also boasts a state-of-the-art water treatment plant, and Binley said that he believes the resort’s reputation is unfairly tarnished by the charges that it has generated.
“I’m a real estate guy, and I’ve worked in the water treatment industry for over 30 years,” said Binley.
“There’s a lot of people that have gone through this industry, they’ve had it and done really well and they’re getting the money they need, but not the quality of life that they deserve.”
The Republican congressman’s comments echo similar claims made by Bennett and King, who both have accused the resort of “sabotaging” the city’s homeless population.
“This is a horrible, horrible place to be homeless,” Kendall Bannon told CNN in January.
“It’s just a disaster.”
“I think it’s an example of a resort that is doing the right thing and has put the right policies in place to try to solve the problem,” Kevin Binley told CNN.
“And we’re here to fight it.”
