Payton was critical of the game, saying the Saints lost because of bad decisions.
Payton called the Patriots’ decision to use a fake punt on first-and-goal from the 2-yard line “the most irresponsible play I’ve seen in my entire NFL career.”
Payton said the Saints have to focus on their own game and not worry about the future.
He said the team can’t “give up” on winning.
Payton also said he was disappointed with how the Saints finished the season and said his players and fans are right to be frustrated.
“There’s no room for complacency.
I think we have to continue to work on that,” Payton said.
“I’m disappointed with the way we played the last couple weeks, but that’s part of the job.”
New Orleans’ season ended Saturday after the Saints defeated the Atlanta Falcons.
